Back-to-School Mental Health Wellness Month

As we enter a new academic school year - it’s important for parents, caregivers, and school personnel to know the signs that a young person is struggling with his or her mental health.

    1. 1. Take 20 minutes a day to self-reflect
    2. 2. Do at least 2 challenging tasks every day
    3. 3. Give up 1 bad habit
    4. 4. Develop positive self-talk
    5. 5. Identify challenges and set goals
    6. 6. Identify your strengths and weaknesses
    7. 7. Journal daily
    8. 8. Write down 10 ideas every day
    9. 9. Take care of your physical and mental health
    10. 10. Curate a healthy, calming, sacred environment

To date, half of all mental health disorders begin by the age of 14, and about 75 percent begin by the age of 24. But it’s also important to know that mental health issues are common and treatable – you don’t have to suffer in silence!

Know the signs and symptoms of mental health issues so you can seek help for yourself or someone you care about.

Just like physical health, taking care of mental health struggles early can help to prevent more serious problems from developing in the future. If you are concerned that you or someone you know may be experiencing a mental health problem, it is important to act before Stage 4. Start the conversation. Seek help from a trusted adult. Remember there is nothing to be ashamed of and that there is help and hope.
